A Comprehensive Picture of Vaginal Health

Vaginitis, characterized by discomfort, irritation, and odors, may be a sign of infection.

The NxGen MDx Vaginosis test uses a single swab with a 24-hour turnaround time to determine the cause of symptoms and provide a tailored treatment plan, getting you the relief you need.

Determining the Cause of Vaginitis Symptoms can be Challenging

Vaginitis can be caused by an imbalance of normal bacteria, yeast, or infectious pathogens such as STIs.

These types of infections have similar symptoms.

59% of patients with bacterial vaginosis have tried to self-treat before seeing their doctor, but most vaginal infections do not have over-the-counter treatment options.1

The NxGen MDx Vaginosis Test looks for 99% of the causes of community-acquired vaginal infections, helping your doctor distinguish between different types of infections without relying on symptoms alone.

NxGen’s test includes information on:

      • Bacterial vaginosis
      • Aerobic vaginitis
      • Yeast infections
      • STIs
      • Antibiotic resistance

NxGen MDx is the Test of Choice, Even for Challenging Infections

Vaginal infections often recur and can be difficult for your doctor to effectively treat.

%

of infections have multiple pathogens present

%

of more than 9,000 cases showed evidence of antibiotic resistance²

Ask your doctor about the NxGen MDx Vaginosis Test for a fast solution to even the most complicated vaginitis cases.

NxGen MDx Makes the Testing Process Quick and Easy

Vaginal pathogens can be collected with a swab from the vaginal wall.

Leaving a Vaginal Infection Untreated May Lead to Further Health Complications

Bacterial Vaginosis

Increased risk for STIs, pelvic inflammatory disease, low birth weight, and premature birth3

Yeast

Discomfort, may interfere with pregnancy, and pain during sex4

Trichomoniasis

Increased risk of additional STIs, pelvic inflammatory disease, low birth weight, and premature birth5

The NxGen Vaginosis Test helps your doctor resolve your infection and reduce the risk of further health complications.

Don’t wait to call your doctor if something feels wrong.

NxGen MDx Tests for 99% of Community-Acquired Infections

NxGen MDx’s Vaginosis Test takes the guesswork out of diagnosis by providing you with a comprehensive picture of your patient’s vaginal microbiome and infection.

An internal review of more than 9,000 vaginitis samples showed that 70% of positive cases were coinfections.* By comparison, less thorough testing would have failed to identify these complex cases, potentially leading to an ineffective treatment plan and recurrence.

NxGen Vaginosis Test shows 70% of positive cases included more than 1 pathogen.

Use NxGen MDx’s Vaginosis Test and give your patient the optimal treatment plan for their unique infection the first time.

NxGen MDx Performs Simultaneous Antibiotic Resistance Testing

66% of more than 9,000 cases showed evidence of antibiotic resistance*

According to the CDC…

“Each year in the U.S., at least 2.8 million people get an antibiotic-resistant infection…”1

Stop the revolving door of patients coming in again and again with recurrent vaginitis. NxGen empowers you to practice antibiotic stewardship by testing for resistance to 10 classes of antibiotics and getting you a result in 24 hours.

Use NxGen MDx’s Vaginosis Test to have confidence in a treatment plan that is appropriate for each infection.

The NxGen MDx Vaginosis Test Impacts Patient Care

The additional assistance with antibiotic resistance testing has also been beneficial as we have been able to treat appropriately to ensure patients will not have to repeat the evaluation as well as not having to take unnecessary medications.

NP, Peachtree Internal Medicine

With this comprehensive knowledge and quick turnaround time, I am able to treat my patients quickly and effectively, which creates an atmosphere of trust and reliability.

Elizabeth Fondren

CRNP

For years I felt limited to the testing that was available; however, the NxGen MDx swab testing evaluated my patient as a whole and ultimately limits the number of times my patients needs to come back for further testing and evaluation. We are able to treat the patient more effectively and quickly using this swab.

Melissa Craig

PA-C

I have been using the NxGen MDx testing swab to diagnose vaginitis for the past 2-3 years. I have enjoyed the thoroughness of the swab that it will test for aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms at the same time as well as STI organisms.

Melissa Craig

PA-C

The best part is the vaginosis panel includes treatment options and a resistance table to eliminate treatment failure.

Leslie Biggs

NP, Peachtree Internal Medicine

The NxGen Vaginosis swab/panel allows me to get a complete analysis of the vaginal flora as well as any pathogenic organisms present. It also provides sensitivity for any pathogenic organisms, so patients are treated with the most effective course of action from the start.

Elizabeth Fondren

CRNP

The [NxGen MDx Vaginosis Test] is so easy to use and interpret, and the turnaround time is unbeatable. It has made such a difference for our patients who have struggled with recurrent infections to identify organisms that are not included in other swabs.

Patient FAQs

What is vaginitis/vaginosis?

Vaginitis and vaginosis are broad characterizations of different vaginal infections that can cause symptoms such as odor, vaginal irritation, and discharge.

What is an STI?

An STI, or sexually transmitted infection, is a pathogen that is transmitted via sexual intercourse or contact.

What should I do if I'm experiencing symptoms of vaginitis/vaginosis or STIs?

You should consult your doctor for testing and treatment.

How quickly can I expect my infection to get better?

NxGen MDx test results will be ready within 1 day of sample receipt. From there, your doctor will prescribe targeted antibiotics that typically resolve infections within a week.

How can I avoid future infections?

STIs can be avoided by using protection methods, such as condoms, that can prevent transmission of infections in addition to pregnancy. Avoiding douching, certain soaps, and underwear fabric types can also prevent future instances of vaginosis or yeast infections.

Is the testing process difficult?

No, it is just a simple swab on the inside walls of the vagina, less invasive than a pap smear.

Provider FAQs

What is the justification for such a broad panel?

Data from our testing has found that 70% of positive cases have more than one pathogen present and 40% of positive cases have additional pathogens that would change treatment methods from typical BV.

How is billing for the test handled?

You just need to offer patients the option of using self-pay or insurance. From there, NxGen MDx will walk patients through the rest of the billing process.

What is the TAT for the test?

Test results will be available within 24 hours of sample receipt in our lab. NxGen MDx provides multiple ways of receiving results (from faxing to EMR integration) or can send results directly to patients.

What happens if the patient tests negative but is still symptomatic?

16S rRNA sequencing is available for identification of pathogenic bacteria when none were identified on the array and Lactobacillus spp. is displaced.
